MaDIE’s Travel Photography Gear

I’ll admit, I don’t enjoy doing camera research. I would rather rank priorities and have someone do the legwork for me! That’s why I trusted Matthew’s write-up on his blog Expert Vagabond. My top three priorities for my travel camera set-up were:

• Lightweight, mirrorless 
• Produces high-quality images, full-frame
• A fixed, versatile lens

Matthew, along with a few other travelers and photographers I follow, highly recommended the Sony Alpha α7 cameras. From there, I chose a body that fit my budget and need.

Knowing that I’d be doing a lot of street photography, food, and portraits, I wanted a relatively wide angle lens, but the ability to get up close and shoot wide open (who doesn’t like bokeh?). I also love fixed lenses, for both it’s compact size and framing/compositional reasons... so I ended up with the 35mm f2.8 lens. My first Zeiss!

We took the camera and lens on a test run to New Orleans, and it proved to be the perfect set-up. You can see some photos on our Instagram: Alex & Madie. All NOLA photos were simply transferred direct from my Sony a7ii to my iPhone, edited in VSCO, and published. Technology is amazing!
